The chance for snow in the mountains is increasing thanks to an approaching large and powerful, low pressure system.
While there's not a ton of moisture associated with the system, there's enough that we'll see some accumulation. Above 3000 feet, I'm expecting 1 to 3 inches of snow. Above 5000 feet, we could potentially see more.
Below 3000 feet, accumulation will be less than an inch. In Asheville, for example, I'm only expecting a half-inch or less.
The potential for a few inches of fresh powder is a good thing, especially for ski resorts like Appalachian Ski, which hasn't seen natural snowfall since December 26, 2020.
Beech Mountain has been a bit luckier in 2021 and picked up 2 inches on January 11.
Here are conditions at four of our North Carolina ski locales as of Friday morning.
