CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A cold front has cleared through the Carolinas and continues to work eastward through the western Atlantic Ocean. Behind that front, much cooler and drier air has taken hold around the region. The result is some fantastic mid-May weather overall.

Most of the region will have plenty of sun throughout the day with highs a bit below average for this time of year. The only shower chance in the state will be around the Outer Banks up toward Elizabeth City, where some isolated showers will remain possible until early evening.

Another cool night is on tap tonight with lows just as cool, and in some instances, cooler than what we had this morning. A gorgeous Wednesday will then ensue with sunshine and pleasant afternoon temperatures.

A big-time warmup will then roll into the eastern US later this week. Thursday will be a bit warmer, but the warmth will really crank Friday, this weekend, and into early next week. In fact, we might wind up hitting 90 degrees on multiple days (outside of the mountains, of course) Saturday-Tuesday. Rain chances will remain pretty small as well.
