On this week's episode of Tying It Together with Tim Boyum, Tim and Ben talk to Pulitzer Prize winning author David Zucchino, who wrote “Wilmington's Lie: The Murderous Coup of 1898 and the Rise of White Supremacy.”

America is again talking in-depth about racial issues, and this is the perfect time to learn about one dark day in this state's past very few people know about.

In the 1890's, Wilmington was a place where Blacks and Whites lived together, and there was a Black middle class. That all ended in 1898 however, after white supremacists killed at least 60 African Americans and overthrew the government at gunpoint.

Zucchino takes us back in time to learn why this event still impacts North Carolina to this day.

Later, we'll also have a good news update on someone featured in our homelessness episode from December.
