RALEIGH, N.C.-- Law enforcement officers across the country are hitting the pavement on Tuesday, August 6, getting up close and personal with members of the communities they serve.

For more than 35 years, the first Tuesday of August has been recognized as National Night Out, a time designed to enhance relationships with neighbors and law enforcement.

The night allows law enforcement to get to know those they serve on a name by name basis, sharing laughs but also concerns.

160 North Carolina cities show they’re hosting National Night Out events, with 50 events in Raleigh alone.

From cookouts, to pool parties and even movie watch parties, events are taking place at community centers, schools and apartments.
