CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Baseball is returning to the diamond in Charlotte this weekend.
It’s been 20 months since a baseball game was played at Truist Field. The minor league baseball season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic last year.
On Saturday, the UNC Charlotte baseball team will face off against Rhode Island in a doubleheader.
Dan Rajkowski, the COO of the Charlotte Knights, says the return of sports isn’t just exciting for players and fans, it’s an important weekend for the people who create the game-day experience.
“You look at an average game day with the Knights. We employ over 450 part-time people. Those people haven’t been working, and it’s been difficult for them,” he says. “Some of them, it’s their primary job. ... So we want to put them back to work. It’s a big family here, and we want to get back to seeing their faces too.”
The Knights season starts on May 4. For more information on tickets, click here.
