BOONE, N.C. — For the first time in 21 years, the Appalachian State University basketball team is headed to the NCAA tournament.

The team last went in 2000, and in 1979 prior to that.

The game is being held in Indiana, which is the same place it was held back in 1979 when App State played. Fans are excited to see them hit the court and say it is long overdue.

For some, like David Jackson, it’s a dream come true.

Jackson worked with the team back in 2000 calling the games. He also recorded every Southern Conference championship game, having no idea he was capturing history.

Jackson says these were moments he will never forget. He hopes those playing on the team now understand how big this moment is and enjoy it.

“They are one of like 40 players ever in App State basketball history to say they played in an NCAA tournament, and that’s not nothing. Hopefully, they will get to know that experience as time goes on,” Jackson says.

Jackson says moments like when the coach cut down the net and when players came off the bus after the game are ones he will never forget. He is proud that history is happening for this small mountain town again.
