CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Spectrum News has confirmed Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is throwing a regulation size football in an overhand motion, the latest step in his rehab from off-season shoulder surgery.

Newton was held out of the Panthers final two games of the 2018 season due to the nagging injury. He underwent his second surgery on his shoulder in January.
The former NFL MVP has not thrown during the team's recent off-season training activities (OTA's), but has been on the field with offensive coordinator Norv Turner during the practices.
The team has maintained they will not rush Newton back to the field, allowing him as much time as needed to heal the shoulder, and prepare for the upcoming season.
Carolina has one more week of OTA's, then a mandatory mini-camp, before getting away for the rest of the summer. Training camp is slated to begin in late July.
