Officials are warning Outer Banks beach-goers of a sandbar danger that could result in being trapped as the tide comes in.

National Park Service officials said beach-goers should be aware of a Shark Island danger, following a statement they released April 8. According to officials, a sandbar is starting to connect near the Point of Cape Lookout, known as Shark Island.

"The sand in this region is soft, making it difficult to navigate, increasing the risk of becoming stuck," NPS said.
