HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. -- The White House and the president are hoping to highlight the U.S. Department of Agriculture's “Farmer to Families” program.
Since May, Flavor 1st has been helping with the program that buys food from farmers that would otherwise go uneaten. That food is distributed to people who need it, and the need has been greater during the pandemic and economic crisis that has impacted many families.
Flavor 1st, which employs 200 farm-owners, packed 85,000 boxes of the 50 million that the program has delivered as of late July.

Locals in Henderson County say farming is a way of life for many in their area and they're happy the president has chosen this small town that has big purpose.
“Farmers are the backbone of our community and without the farmers, we are in need of a lot of things," says Adriane VanDoren. "So I think it's one of the key initial things that he can support that makes the community feel better about themselves.”
During his visit, the president will watch workers pack boxes and load them onto refrigerated trucks to be delivered to families.
Monday is also the first day of a scaled-down Republican National Convention in Charlotte, some 100 miles from Flavor 1st's Henderson County location. The Republican Party formally nominated President Donald Trump for a second term in the White House.
Spectrum News will have nightly coverage of the RNC in Charlotte, including a live coverage of featured speakers and real-time updates on the Spectrum News App.
