The CSU team is one of the “Thrilling 32” advancing to the national championship after their performance in the National Qualifying Tournament in Alabama.

The quiz bowl-style competition offers significant rewards, including $100,000 in institutional grant funding for the winning team and scholarship opportunities for individual participants.

“We are trying to get to $100,000. That would mean we are taking home the gold,” said Dr. Sarah Jones, coach of the CSU Trivia Team. “We've been in the top 16 the last couple of years. We're working on getting to the top four this year.”

Team captain Nya Bruson said the experience goes beyond the competition itself.

“Just being able to have this experience and network with people from around the world and different HBCUs has been great,” Bruson said. “I know that I'll have that network as I graduate.”

Last year, Central State earned $8,500 in grant funding from the tournament. This year, the team is aiming higher.

The finals will be streamed live on the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge YouTube channel on April 17.
