What You Need To Know

  • A social media video is circulating of a man being slammed onto a police car by Goldsboro police officers

  • The man was reported to be armed and resisting arrest

  • The police department said it would be reviewing the incident to ensure compliance with their policies

The police department said it responded to a call on Jan. 28 involving someone who was trespassing at an apartment complex. Authorities said the man had previously threatened employees of the complex. Police said the man was resisting arrest and had a weapon.

In the video found on Facebook, you can see the man laying on the ground with three officers surrounding him and pinning him down. The man had a medical boot around his foot.

As the video continues, the man is walked in handcuffs to the police vehicle, where he was kicked in his booted foot by one of the officers. The man is then slammed onto the car repeatedly, followed by concerned voices of the bystanders, the video shows.

“Officers took necessary actions to secure the individual and prevent further harm to themselves,” the police department said.

The authorities report the man was hurt during the arrest and had to receive medical attention under the department’s protocol.

“It is important to note that the video circulating does not depict the entire encounter, including the four-minute struggle with officers prior to the moment shown,” the Goldsboro Police Department said.

“As with any use-of-force incident, this matter is being reviewed to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures. The safety of the public and our officers remains our highest priority.”

The man was charged with second-degree trespass, assault on a law enforcement officer, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and damage to property, according to police.
