Two teenagers accused of assaulting a state trooper and striking a Durham Police Department vehicle Saturday are in custody, police said Wednesday morning.

The situation started on Chapel Hill Road near Legion Ave.

Durham police said they were called to the area regarding an assault with a deadly weapon on a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper during a chase.

A 14-year-old and 15-year-old were at the center of the chase and a manhunt, according to police. Investigators found the teens in a black Infinity, according to police, and when officers approached, the teens fled and struck a Durham Police Department vehicle.

The teens later got into another vehicle and ran off when troopers attempted to pull them over, officers said. Residents were asked to avoid the area for a time.

"Durham Police and North Carolina State Highway Patrol are conducting an active search for potentially armed suspects in the area of Durham Chapel Hill Blvd and Legion Ave," police said while still searching for the teens. "Motorists are asked to avoid the area at this time. Residents are asked to stay inside and call 911 to report any suspicious activity."

As of Wednesday morning, both teens were in custody, according to police.
