An EF1 tornado hit Blowing Rock on Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service said Thursday.
The twister, with winds up to 90 mph, touched down about 6:40 p.m. near Birch Drive and Hill Street and traveled for about half a mile, uprooting trees and blowing down tents, the NWS said.
The weather service determined a tornado also struck about 8 p.m. Wednesday in Shingle Hollow, Rutherford County, causing light damage to barns and greenhouses and knocking down trees.
