A hiker who fell 75 feet and landed on a ledge at Crowders Mountain State Park was rescued Wednesday evening by firefighters and park rangers.

The Gastonia Fire Department, Kings Mountain Fire Department and state park rangers responded to the emergency fall at the park in southwestern North Carolina, according to the Gastonia Fire Department. The hiker had fallen onto a ledge on the Pinnacle Trail, the fire department said in a social media post.

The Pinnacle Trail is described as a strenuous, 2-mile hike by the park’s website. After hiking the trail, firefighters created a braking system using 1,200 feet of rope, according to officials. This brake system was used to lower the hiker 150 feet to safety, officials said.

The hiker was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
