Vice President Kamala Harris will return to North Carolina Thursday to hold a campaign rally in Fayetteville.

This will be the vice president's seventh trip this year to North Carolina, a state that's set to play a key role this fall. Her latest visit comes on the final day of the Republican National Convention.

Former President Donald Trump won the state by less than 2% in 2020, and this year's rematch is expected to be another tight race.

Gov. Roy Cooper highlighted the state’s influence when introducing Biden at a rally last month, less than 24 hours after the first presidential debate. Biden's performance in that debate fueled calls for him to step down and for another Democrat to be at the top of the ticket in November.

Biden says he has no plans to step aside.

“If Joe Biden wins North Carolina, he is president of the United States once again,” Cooper said.

Harris' visit comes on the last day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Trump and Ohio Sen. JD Vance were formally nominated as the Republican candidates for president and vice president.

The RNC followed a tumultuous weekend after an attack on Trump at a Pennsylvania rally.
