CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A small plane crashed near Siler City Municipal Airport Friday, killing two people, according to Sgt. Marcus Bethea with the State Highway Patrol.

The plane was a Piper PA-28-140, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said. Siler City is located about an hour west of Raleigh.

Officials have yet to confirm the total number of people on the plane at the time of the crash, but the plane could hold up to four people.
