EF1 tornado touched down Friday near Camp Lejeune, NWS says

A tornado with winds up to 90 mph touched down in Onslow County on Friday evening, the National Weather Service says.

The EF1 tornado damaged trees along its 9-mile path from near the town of Verona, south of Jacksonville, to Camp Lejeune about 5:30 p.m., the NWS said in a preliminary statement Friday.

No injuries were reported.
