Community members and first responders gathered on bridges and along the highway to watch a procession for fallen Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks in the Charlotte area Wednesday.
Weeks and three others were gunned down Monday afternoon while serving a warrant at home in a Charlotte neighborhood. Four other law enforcement officers were hurt in the shooting that turned into an hours-long standoff, which led to blocked roadways and other community impacts.
The procession carried Weeks from the medical examiner’s office to a funeral home in Mooresville.
Weeks, a 13-year veteran, died in the hospital from his gunshot wounds. He is survived by a wife and four children.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Joshua Eyers was also killed in the shootout. A funeral for him is planned for Friday morning at First Baptist Church in Charlotte.
