Holly Springs police officers shot and injured a man who pulled a gun the early Thursday morning, according to the police department.

An employee at a Target store at 100 Grand Hill Place in Holly Springs, North Carolina, called police about a suspicious person outside the closed store at about 4 a.m., police said.

“Very quickly after encountering the subject, he presented a firearm, and in response both officers discharged their service weapons, striking the individual,” Holly Springs police said in a news release.

Police said the officers immediately gave the man first aid and called an ambulance.

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting and the two officers are on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for police shootings.

Police did not release any details about the man’s condition. No one else was injured in the shooting, police said.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident,” said Holly Springs Police Chief Paul Liquorie.

“We are committed to cooperating with a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the shooting. We understand the impact of such incidents on our community and are dedicated to maintaining the trust and safety of Holly Springs residents,” he said.
