Knightdale Police have charged a 17-year-old suspect for his role in a murder late last year. 

Police responded to a shots fired call around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 8. Officers arrived and found that Shinaka Ocean Earth, a 40-year-old mother of three, was shot while sitting on her porch. Earth was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Knightdale police presented their findings in the case to the Wake County District Attorney's Office earlier this week, and the office authorized murder charges against the juvenile. 

The suspect is currently being held in a juvenile detention facility. Police said the investigation is still active, and they are still investigating other leads and identifying other suspects.
