Eight operators have gone live for mobile sports bets. This means sports goers can begin the process of making bets right on their phones. 

Legalized sports betting in North Carolina is happening at an exciting time for basketball fans, right before the NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments. 

DraftKings is one of the operators now live in North Carolina for mobile bets.

The company held a ceremonial first bet at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. 

The first bet placed was made by Carolina Panthers legend Greg Olsen. 

Sports betting may not be for everyone, but some sports fans say they're fired up about the new opportunity. 

Charles Nesby Jr., 21, and his girlfriend Faith Lindsey just found out about mobile sports betting being legalized in the state. 

Nesby says it's something he's seriously considering doing in the future. 

"Honestly, I just want a few extra bucks in my pocket," Nesby said. "You know how expensive it is to live here?"

When it comes to revenue, sports betting is expected to be a game changer for the state. 

According to BetCarolina.com writer and analyst Stephen Bittenbender, the company expects the amount of money being wagered over the next 12-month period to be over $6 billion. They're also projecting around $700 million for operator revenues.
