A native of Charlotte, Jennifer Roberts is excited to join the Spectrum News 1 team as multimedia journalist and tell stories in a community near to her heart.

Before entering the world of local news, Jennifer spent time in Atlanta and New York City pursuing a career as a performing artist. Some of her notable credits include Cirque Du Soleil, the BET Hip Hop Awards, an ABC Watch commercial, and Investigation Discovery. 

She also received the Laurel Wreath Award by the Black Student Union for her leadership and success with a hip hop dance organization on campus at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Jennifer earned a degree in broadcasting and production technology from Central Piedmont Community College in December 2017. She received the CPCC Outstanding Student Award for the Broadcast and Production Technology program and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

While attending CPCC, she devoted her time to internships at Spectrum News 1 and WTVI PBS Charlotte.

Jennifer began her news career in 2018 at WVVA News, an NBC affiliate in Bluefield, West Virginia. She won “Best Investigative News Story or Series” at the West Virginia Broadcasters Association Excellence in Broadcasting Awards for her series “Another Day of Bluefield Roadwork.” She also mentored students from nearby colleges who were interested in a career in broadcasting. 

In 2020, Jennifer worked as a multimedia journalist for WMBF News in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and was the recipient of the 2021 South Carolina Education Association “School Bell Award.”
