Their teen program, Turning Everything Around Teens, will now offer the class to all girls aged 11 and up.
The class will focus on movement and ways of coping with different trauma.
North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University freshman Makela Dennis said taking part has helped her gain the tools she needs to cope with anxiety.
“Classes like this just help me with my mental health to discover all different ways to deal with life,” Dennis said.
Dennis recently joined the mentorship program and currently shadows Turning Everything Around Founder Lisa McMillan.
McMillan said it was important to her to incorporate a mental health outlet into their program, adding that the first few classes have gone well.
“Young people don’t have a way to escape a lot of time when things are going on around them, so Mona teaches them how to get back centered. She teaches the way that we can experience a level of grounding and comfort within ourselves,” McMillan explained.
The class is instructed by Life Fit founder Mona Flynn every Friday at Peeler Recreation Center, and every second Monday of the month at McGirt-Horton Branch Library.
