CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers will finish the remaining 2023 season without former head coach Frank Reich.

What You Need To Know

  •  The Carolina Panthers fired head coach Frank Reich Monday

  •  Some fans feel the change in coaching leadership was needed

  •  One fans hopes the firing will help turn the team around

On Monday, the Carolina Panthers fired Reich, one day after the Panthers lost 17-10 to the Tennessee Titans.

Although some Panthers fans may be upset about the firing, others feel very different.

David McClelland is a proud and dedicated Carolina Panthers fan.

He has a man cave filled with everything that represents the team's "keep pounding" mentality.

"I am a delusional Carolina Panthers fan," McClelland said.

Every Monday, McClelland devotes time to re-watch the latest Panthers game.

"It's my Monday tradition of rewatching the game with a little bit of the emotion removed," McClelland said.

But Sunday's game was at times a bit hard for him to watch.

"I have not seen these guys quit. But man, you can only take so much," McClelland said.

McClelland said that's one of the reasons he's wasn't surprised about Reich's firing.

"It felt like it was coming," McClelland said. "It just wasn't working and obviously needed to be done, and when you realize you make a mistake sometimes the best thing to do is quickly move on."

He feels new leadership, both on and off the field, is what this team needs to bounce back.

"I think they need to completely clean house," McClelland said. "It's shocking in that this is now two coaches that have been fired in-season, two years in a row. That's kind of concerning. [Also] makes me concerned about how potential head coach candidates will view this job because there seems to be lots of instability."

But regardless of any record or firing, McClelland said he will continue to bring that "keep pounding" energy to the stands. He's encouraging more fans to do the same.

"If you're a Panthers fan, then those are your instructions — 'keep pounding.' Show up to the game and support the players. They're in the same situation you are, they can't control the coach. They deserve our support," McClelland said.
