Trees in the North Carolina moutains are transitioning from bright green to autumn shades more and more as the fall season gets into full swing and temperatures drop.

This year, the seasonal hues have been a little slower to make their debut because temperatures have been warmer than usual. But now, the oranges, yellows and reds are starting to pop as it's getting much colder, according to Professor Howard Neufeld at Appalachian State University, who has been studying the leaves for decades and runs the Fall Color Guy Facebook Page.
