Idalia blew through parts of eastern North Carolina Wednesday night and into Thursday, downing trees, flooding roadways and even tearing the roof off of a business. 

The storm made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane in the Big Bend of Florida Wednesday morning. Idalia weakened once on land, but continued on a destructive path across Georgia and South Carolina, eventually reaching North Carolina. 

The National Weather Service in Wilmington says they are investigating two possible tornadoes from Monday night in North Carolina, one in the St. James Community in Brunswick County and another along Myrtle Grove Road in New Hanover County.  NWS officials are investigating three other possible tornadoes in nearby South Carolina. 

Strong winds and rain lashed coastal North Carolina as Tropical Storm Idalia moved through. Photos and video show fallen trees, some snapped in half with only the trunk left standing.

A business in Southport, N.C., Four Paws Veterinary Office, lost its roof in the storm. Everyone at the business was reported to be OK. 

Reports came in Thursday of impassable roads in Jacksonville, N.C. due to flooding, including vehicles being disabled because of the floodwaters.

Gov. Roy Cooper, who declared a statewide emergency earlier this week, had warned residents in coastal and eastern inland counties to prepare for heavy rainfall and localized flooding.
