  • The National Association of Realtors awarded Sofia Crisp $5,000 to continue her work in fair housing and expand homeownership in the Triad

  • Crisp also organized efforts to restore homes, help connect homeowners to insurance education and resources and convert longtime renters into homeowners

Sofia Crisp founded the nonprofit Housing Consultants Group in 2004.

In 2018, after a tornado ripped through a mostly Black community in Greensboro, Crisp helped launch the program #100Homes, in partnership with the City of Greensboro, to help those who were impacted.

"What came out of the tornado was the fact that a lot of people did not have insurance, but it also occurred to me about six months later that a lot of the people that have been affected by the tornado that was renting, could be homeowners," Crisp explained.

The initiative increased homeownership for African Americans across the city and created more than 1,000 homeowners since its launch.

The National Association of Realtors awarded Crisp $5,000 to continue her work in fair housing and expand homeownership in the Triad.

“It was an honor to receive the award not for the accolades but because fair housing is so important to me," she said.

Crisp also organized efforts to restore homes, help connect homeowners to insurance education and resources and convert longtime renters into homeowners.
