CONCORD, N.C. — A charity event tees off next month to help a North Carolina nonprofit. Seakers offers lessons in aviation and scuba diving to people who otherwise may not get a chance to experience those opportunities.

What You Need To Know

  • The Sizzlin' Summer Scramble Golf Tournament will fund the nonprofit Seakers through the year

  • Seakers provides scuba diving and aviation lessons to North Carolina youth

  • People interested can still sponsor the event or sign up to participate

An upcoming golf tournament called the Sizzlin’ Summer Scramble will help the organization stay afloat.

Haven Monroe is a high school junior who's part of the aviation program. She says the Seakers community welcomed her with open arms when she joined six months ago.

“To be honest with you, it’s the people. They’re just a really great support system,” she said. “They’ve helped me with so much. They’ve written letters of recommendation for me.”

Seakers executive director Shannon McAteer says the organization aims to show young people a new path to fun.

“We want to get the younger generation into some areas of adventure,” he said. “Try to get kids away from electronics a little bit, and get them out and see what life has to offer them.”

McAteer says there are still opportunities to sponsor the event and to participate.

The Sizzlin' Summer Scramble is July 31 at the Cabarrus Country Club. To sign up, go to seakers.org
