STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — An Amber Alert issued Thursday for Stephanie Morton, 16, of Stanly County, has been canceled.

On Friday, the Stanly County Sheriff's Office said Morton was found and is safe. The suspect is in custody, officials said, though they have not officially been named.

"This investigation spanned numerous agencies, states, dozens of law enforcement officers and telecommunicators. Thank everyone for their help," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.

Morton had last been seen at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at South Stanly High School when the alert was issued. Deputies say she was seen leaving in a red car with a middle-aged white man, believed to be Duane Howard Bartlett, 30.
