LUMBERTON, N.C. — A man is dead after being shot by officers during a domestic disturbance call late Monday night, police say.

Lumberton police say the call came in just before midnight from a home on East 5th Street.

Officers found a man "upset" at the home, according to a release, and an "altercation took place" just before the shooting. Police say the man died from his injuries.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting, which is standard procedure.

The name of the man killed and the officers involved have not yet been released.

This is the 17th shooting involving police or deputies in North Carolina this year, according to Spectrum News 1's tracking of these types of incidents.
