Police are searching for a suspected kidnapper who forced a woman into a car in Matthews, North Carolina, before noon Monday, officials said. The woman was found safe later Monday afternoon, police said.
At about 11:40 a.m., witnesses said a man, later identified as Logan William Calaway, 23, forced a woman into a dark BMW and sped away, according to police. Officials identified the woman as 25-year-old Amber Marie Tibbits.
Police are still looking for Calaway and ask if anyone sees him to call 911.
The investigation found Calaway and Tibbits knew each other, police said. They cautioned against interfering with the suspect.
"Please do not attempt to approach the suspect in this case, but if you have any information, please call 911 immediately," police said in a news release.
The kidnapping happened on the 1400 block of Matthews Mint Hill Road in Matthews, police said. That is southeast of Charlotte, just outside the Queen City.
Police described Tibbits as a white female, about 5’4” tall and weighing140 lbs. She has straight, long brown hair and brown eyes. "She was last seen wearing a multicolored top with a black and tan background and black pants (similar to leggings)," police said.
Calaway, of Charlotte, is an American Indian male, about 5’9” tall, with curly, short brown hair and brown eyes.
