GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of Tuesday's small engine plane crash as 52-year-old Kurtis Dale Williams of Kernersville, according to a release.

Williams was piloting the plane and was accompanied by 39-year-old James Anthony Foecking of Randleman.

Foecking was pulled from the wreckage and taken to the hospital. He is expected to recover, according to the release.

The sherrif’s office said the crash happened before noon on an embankment near U.S. 421 South and Monnett Road. Crews pronounced Williams dead at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash to figure out what went wrong.
