A 40-year-old woman is dead and so are her children in a shooting at home on a Winston-Salem city street.
When Winston-Salem police officers got to the 3100 block of Brookhill Street to investigate reports of a shooting, they discovered Ethal Syretha Steele dead inside from what looks to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said in a news release.
The shooting happened on Brookhill Drive and Pope Road in a suburban neighborhood, southwest of downtown Winston-Salem.
Police said they also found her three children inside, ages 9, 12 and 14, dead from apparent gunshots.
“Currently, no other subjects are being sought and there is not an active threat to the community. This is currently an active investigation. No additional information will be released at this time,” police said in the release.
Authorities also said the killings for the 14th, 15th and 16th homicides this year, compared to 14 during the same time period in 2022.
