Investigators are looking into three separate accusations of sexual assaults on children at a daycare in Wendell, North Carolina, police said.

The Wendell Police Department asked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to step in to lead the investigation of ABC Land Daycare on Raymond Drive in Wendell.

"Based on the circumstances and the number of cases reported, the Wendell Police Department has requested the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assume responsibility for the investigation," the police department said in a new release.

The first two complaints about a staff member came on Jan. 4, according to police. The third accusation came on Jan. 10.

"The reporting persons stated that an employee at ABC Land committed sexual assaults on their children," police said.

Wendell is a largely suburban town in eastern Wake County.

According to its website, ABC Land Daycare has been around since 1979 and has two daycare centers in Wendell. The daycare in this case cares for children six weeks to five years old.
