The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro is partnering with the city to launch a Greensboro Housing Fund.

The fund will leverage public-private capital to provide below-market rate loans to developers for affordable housing projects in the area.

The president of the fund, Walker Sanders, says the goal is to help make affordable housing options available to families.

"If you think right now in our community there's no housing for teachers, firefighters, police officers or EMS workers," Sanders said. "We need to address that issue in our community.”

Sanders says the housing fund will help families find affordable housing.

“Tons of jobs will be coming, and we need to make sure we have the housing for them," Sanders said.

As of now, the foundation is a few million dollars short of its $32 million goal. So far, members have raised $27 million. They expect to reach that goal this month.
