In Morrisville, the group Democracy N.C. ships out millions of voter registration materials, including the forms, bilingual voter information and nonpartisan self-submitted candidate profiles to communities eager to register new voters.

Siesa Shuman, the volunteer program associate for the group, says their goal is to empower residents to use their right to vote no matter their demographic.

“We truly seek to live in a representative government where everyone's voice is heard. So we will talk to anyone and give the information to anyone who needs it,“ Shuman said.

And since September, Unlock Your Vote and the Guilford County Reentry Council have been using those materials to register residents on parole or probation who are now eligible to vote after an N.C. Court of Appeals ruling.

Charles Hinsley, a volunteer for Unlock Your Vote, says the group has helped nearly 100 people to register to vote, including many on parole or probation.

“We try to encourage everyone to exercise their right to be engaged in democracy actively, in order to make a difference in the services we receive as a community and as individuals and as a state and country," Hinsley said.

After Friday, voters can submit a same-day registration during one-stop early voting at the polls.

One-stop, in-person early voting begins Oct. 20.
