Getting the flu shot is the best way to prevent the flu and having complications from the flu or being hospitalized

The flu season is anticipated to be a rebound year

Kristin Kajcienski and Brianna Mamrega are third-year pharmacy students at High Point University and preparing their skills to give out flu vaccinations.

“So we practice almost every week doing viral transfers and drawing up syringes,” Kajcienski said.

Which will help them when they start giving flu shots out in the community.

Doctors say we’ve seen some pretty mild flu seasons over the last couple of years due to people following COVID-19 restrictions. But since those restrictions have relaxed, there is some worry this year could see a rebound.

“It’s been a quick spike in cases, so based on that and in Australia, we want to make sure that we are taking the necessary precautions this upcoming flu season,” Kajcienski said.

Meaning it’s even more important to get vaccinated this year to stay healthy.

“Make sure you are getting your vaccines and are practicing good hygiene, so coughing into your elbow and watching your hands often, making sure that if you are sick you, wear a mask and stay away from people,” Kajcienski said.

The month of October is the beginning of the flu season for North Carolina. It runs through May.
