Three deputies were shot Monday morning while serving papers at a home in the Dudley community in Wayne County. The suspect was later found dead.

Around 8 p.m. Monday, members of the Wayne County SWAT team entered the home and found the suspect, Jourdan Hamilton, 33, dead of an apparent shotgun wound, according to a Wayne County tweet. Hamilton was barricaded in the house for several hours.

Wayne County deputies went to the home in the 2500 block of Arrington Bridge Rd. at 10:30 a.m.

"Deputies were serving involuntary commitment paperwork when they were fired upon," Gillie said Monday.

All three deputies were taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. Monday night, Sgt. Fishman was listed in critical condition before he succumbed to his injuries.

Deputy Alexander Ramon Torres, 27, and Cpl. Andrew Cox, 37, were in stable condition, according to a Wayne County tweet Monday night.

"Sheriff Pierce thanks each officer and first responder for their support and asks for prayers for the families involved during this difficult time. He also would like to thank the in-county and out-of-county support received through the day yesterday," Gillie said.

Dudley is an unincorporated community south of Goldsboro, N.C.
