CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nearly 200 cars have been stolen in Charlotte in the last two weeks, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

CMPD tweeted a video Monday with some tips designed to help cut down the number of vehicle thefts:

  1. Lock your doors.
  2. Keep possession of your keys and know where your key fobs are at all times. Do not leave them in your car.
  3. If you own a firearm, do not leave it in your car. If you must leave it in your car, secure it in a gunbox in the trunk.

Police also urge people to not leave their car unattended while running.
