MEBANE, N.C. — A young child left in a vehicle died Friday afternoon in Mebane, police said.

Officers responding to a cardiac arrest call about 12:23 p.m. outside a business found a 12-month-old unresponsive despite CPR measures, the Mebane Police Department stated in a news release.

Police said they haven’t determined how long the child was in the vehicle, which was at the Armacell facility at 7412 Oakwood St. near Interstate 85. The child’s father works at Armacell, police said.

Police did not identify the man or the child.

The temperature about noon in the Mebane area was in the mid-80s under partly cloudy skies, according to the National Weather Service.

Armacell is an international foam and insulation manufacturer with several North Carolina locations, including in Mebane.

Police said that charges have not been filed and that investigators will confer with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
