Police are looking for a white four-door BMW and a black Dodge Charger in connection with the shootings
Police say the initial shooting happened just before 8 p.m. along U.S. 52, followed by a second shooting on East 25th Street.
Officers found over 50 shell casings, fired from different guns, on U.S. 52 and in nearby Fairview Park.
The shootings were not random, according to police, who said they have had a tough time getting anyone they've interviewed to share details and are still trying to piece together why the gunfire erupted.
Authorities said at the Monday afternoon news conference that most of the victims and suspects knew each other, but they are still trying to learn how they were all involved with one another and the violence that happened. Two of the seven victims are “believed to be uninvolved in the incident” and were “innocent victims that happened to be in the wrong area at the wrong time,” according to police.
Two victims, a 31-year-old man and a 36-year-old man, were found on U.S. 52 north after being shot while traveling along the highway, police say. EMS took the men to a nearby hospital. The men were shot in the head and face, but are expected to be OK.
Four additional victims, two 31-year-old women, a 21-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man, were found along East 25th Street with gunshot wounds. The women were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, and the man refused medical attention for his injury, which police described as minor.
A seventh victim, a 24-year-old man, was shot in the stomach along East 25th Street and made his way to the hospital.
Police are looking for a white four-door BMW and a black Dodge Charger in connection with the shootings.
