CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A charter school in Charlotte is continuing to expand its high school this year.
Pioneer Springs Community School incorporates sustainable and environmental learning throughout its coursework.
The school encourages teachers to spend about 60% of class time outside, to provide hands-on learning experiences for the kids.
“Being able to remove the walls from the classroom and utilize the amazing campus — our pond, our nature trails, the beehives — being able to do archery and be hands-on,” Dean of Nature Chris Simeral said. “It enables our students to not just read about it in a book, but experience it.”
Pioneer Springs serves kids from all over the greater Charlotte region.
