PISGAH FOREST, N.C. — A prescribed burn will take place Tuesday, Feb. 15 in Transylvania County.

The Pisgah Ranger District will conduct the burn on 1,000 acres.

Officials say portions of Horse Cove Trail, Squirrel Gap Trail and access to Cantrell from Squirrel Gap Trail will be temporarily closed for the day to help ensure firefighter and visitor safety.

“The goal of this prescribed burn is to reduce the risk of wildfires and increase wildlife habitat diversity,” officials said in a release.

During the time of the burn, residents can expect to see smoke and increased firefighter traffic in the area.
