We kick off Black History Month looking at HBCU’s in North Carolina.

There are both private and public HBCU’s in our state. Public institutions were made possible by the Second Morrill Act in 1890. N.C. A&T State University was founded the year after — then known as the Agricultural and Mechanical College for the colored race.

Since then, it has grown into the largest HBCU in the country.
