CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte's CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar opened Monday, Aug. 30 and will be free for passengers through January 2022. The Charlotte Area Transit System announced the upcoming opening Thursday.
Service will run every 20 minutes, seven days a week, from 5 a.m. to 2 a.m.
The existing streetcar tracks were extended by 2.5 miles on the east and west ends of the line as part of the phase 2 project. The extension now connects the Historic West End to the Elizabeth neighborhood through uptown Charlotte.
Anyone driving, walking, biking or living near the streetcar alignment is urged to become familiar with the rules of streetcar safety. While in service, the streetcar will continue to use horns and bells to communicate with pedestrians and motorists. Motorists should also obey all parking signage.
Roadway and sidewalk work is scheduled to continue over the next several months, but is not expected to impact streetcar operation.
