The Asheville Tourists partnered with Ingles to host canned food drive
More than 700 pounds of canned goods were donated
Fans could bring in four cans for one ticket
Earlier this month, the Tourists, in a partnership with Ingles Markets, held a canned food drive in exchange for baseball tickets to Sunday games.
Sunday's game was one fans could attend by bringing in four Laura Lynn cans. For every four cans a ticket was received, and one person could get up to six tickets.
Tourists Assistant General Manager Sam Fischer said they received over 720 pounds of canned goods, all of which were donated to the MANNA FoodBank in Asheville. Around 200 tickets were given out.
"Going through the pandemic, obviously we lost an entire season, a year of baseball," Fischer said. "But the community really supported us. Came out to all the different events we did as we were just trying to make some money in a bad situation like anybody else, so it's really nice to be able to give back to the community at this point."
Prior to the pandemic, the Tourists would host canned food drives on Sundays.
In the coming months, the baseball team plans to host another canned-food-for-tickets event.
