GREENSBORO, N.C. — A North Carolina family is honoring their late loved one by giving back to the community.
The Forever Twenty9 Foundation is a community organization dedicated to outreach and helping at-risk students.
The foundation was created in honor of Shannon Carter, a Greensboro father who was shot and killed in January 2021— on the same evening of his baby shower.
“When he left out, he was shot, fatally shot," said his brother, Shan Carter. "And he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.”
Shan Carter said his family has found a silver lining in their grief by giving back to their community and creating a legacy for Shannon's son, Ashton.
“Shannon is remaining solid to all those whom he loved, whether it's his family, friends or his community," Shan Carter said. "I often tell people that if only God could judge me was a person, it would be Shannon. And we love him forever.”
The Forever Twenty9 Foundation is offering annual scholarships for at-risk students at Dudley High School. It's also donated school supplies and snack packs for students. If you would like to donate, email ForeverTwenty9@yahoo.com.
The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
