NORTH CAROLINA — The North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles is resuming Saturday hours at 16 offices across the state, and expanding weekday hours at 25 locations.

Walk-in customers will start being accepted from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday beginning May 15 at 16 locations. 

The NCDMV said eight offices will focus on road testing. This will “help reduce the backlog of teenaged drivers who are required by state law to pass a road test to gain their Level 3 Full Provisional license.”

Those offices include:

  • Jacksonville 
  • Wilmington South
  • Durham South
  • Greensboro West
  • Hudson
  • Charlotte South
  • Huntersville
  • Hendersonville

The other eight offices will administer in-house testing for permits and licenses and other services. Road testing at these offices will not be available.

Offices include:

  • Greenville
  • Fayetteville West
  • Raleigh North
  • Greensboro East
  • Winston-Salem South
  • Charlotte North
  • Monroe
  • Asheville

Starting Monday, May 17, NCDMV said 25 offices will also begin an extended schedule of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The locations offering the extended hours include:

  • Asheville
  • Carrboro
  • Cary
  • Charlotte East
  • Charlotte North
  • Charlotte South
  • Charlotte West
  • Durham South
  • Elizabeth City
  • Fayetteville West
  • Goldsboro
  • Greenville
  • Greensboro East
  • Greensboro West
  • Huntersville
  • Jacksonville
  • Kinston
  • Monroe
  • Raleigh North
  • Raleigh West
  • Wendell
  • Wilmington North
  • Wilmington South
  • Winston-Salem North
  • Winston-Salem South

Customers are also reminded to visit the NCDMV website for a variety of online services, which include driver license and ID renewals, ordering duplicate licenses and ID cards, driving record requests, driver license office appointments, registration renewals, vehicle property tax payments, duplicate registration cards, and ordering personalized and specialty plates.
