PINEVILLE, N.C. — Police say two men who shot each other in a confrontation at a North Carolina shopping mall are facing criminal charges.
Pineville Police said Sunday they have charged both 32-year-old Kevion Harris and 24-year-old Jamie G’Vantay Williams with assault with a deadly weapon and firearms possession by a convicted felon.
Police evacuated the Carolina Place Mall Saturday afternoon when the shooting broke out. Both men were injured, and police said Sunday they are recovering from their injuries at hospitals.
Their injuries are not considered life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.
Pineville Police Department had multiple units at the scene, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department assisted.
The shooting reportedly happened shortly before 5 p.m. Video posted by a customer to Facebook shows people being filed out of the mall with their hands in the air.
Bobby Nguyen said he was inside the mall when the shooting occurred and everyone ran to the back of a store. Finding no exit, he said, "About 30 of us was trapped in the storage room of the Finish Line."
Another customer, Ryerson Rogers, said he has been coming to Carolina Place since he was a kid and is shocked a shooting would happen there.
The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office also helped secure the scene.
In a release, Pineville Police stated they believe the shooting was an isolated incident between two people and they are not actively looking for additional subjects.
This is an ongoing investigation. Check back for updates.
