Thirty Christmas trees line the streets of downtown Lenox this holiday season. They're part of a holiday tree walk.

Which chamber of commerce executive director Jennifer Nacht said is a socially distanced replacement for the town's annual holiday celebration.

"We still wanted to create a reason and an event for people to walk through town, stroll through town. It was really something to just sort of brighten up the season."

Each tree is sponsored by a business and decorated by a local artist.

One of those artists is Pittsfield native Mary Jo Maichack.

Her 'Your Poet' tree is adorned with inspiring quotes from famous writers.

"There are quotes about warmth of winter, the cold of winter, but mainly what I wanted to do was to give people some feelings of hope."

Maichack has a second tree outside the Lenox Public Library called 'Your Wishes and Hopes' which passersby can decorate with their own words.

"It's festooned with bright sharpies, so you can take little purple cards out of the pockets and write on them and tuck them in for others to read."

Nacht said the walk has been incredibly well received, and she's planning on making it a new tradition.

"We're very pleased with it. We were so happy with the participation and with how the trees came out. They're all uniquely beautiful. So I think next year, we'll probably increase it to 50, and have the trees all throughout town."
